Such highfalutin notions are typical of Ireland. That the country can somehow move, in one fell swoop no less, from being behind-the-times and half-assed to being a world leader in whatever area is currently flavour-of-the-month.

There is no appetite for paying more for electricity - while fossil fuels continue to be as cheap as they are, who (apart from a few tree-huggers) will switch?.

Lastly, where will the turbines be put. It's a country where not-in-my-backyard is ingrained. We have the space but even offshore farms (such as the one in Arklow) meet with a lot of opposition. If they manage 4% let alone 40% I'd be surprised.
